About Kaelee:
Hello, and welcome to Seattle Bred! My name is Kaelee Chang and I am a weekend warrior residing in Seattle. Despite living in the PNW my entire life and having an extremely outdoorsy father—my outdoor journey only began a few short years ago. I grew up in a religious environment that taught me women weren’t capable of big things, and I let that message control my actions for a long time. It was only after getting divorced at 24 that I started hiking and rebelling against that narrative. Since then I have climbed Mount Baker, gone on solo backpacking trips, and even trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
Seattle Bred is how I started sharing my outdoor journey and it has slowly morphed into a place where I can help others get started in their own outdoor pursuits! Check back often for trip reports, gear reviews, and personal ramblings on how the outdoors have changed my life for the better!
My misadventures in learning how to ski as an adult have really taught me the value of being a beginner at something that terrifies you. It’s a mental state you can't really reproduce in any other conditions and it truly teaches you a lot about who you are as a person. A younger Kaelee avoided all things she was afraid of or bad at, I like to think this older wiser version of myself will continue to open them with open arms, and a guided ice climbing excursion in Montana is a perfect example of that.
